Art Therapist, Art Facilitator, Creative Coach

Lindy Chicola, MA

Nature, art, and a diverse cultural family background has had a strong influence on my life and art. Since earning a B.F.A. at Rhode Island School of Design in film/video/animation, community-building art projects have been an obsession. After exploring the cultural and spiritual meaning of art more deeply at Free Columbia, my M.A. in art therapy initiated me in applying "art-as-healing" in dynamic settings (like the Accessibility department at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). Through non-profits like the Art Therapy Institute and Church World Service, I have the privilege of facilitating art as a mode of healing with an amazing array of people. Via Hearth collective, Wisdom Circles, and other artistic collaborative projects, I explore the magical way art creates freedom and social renewal with artists, activists, wellness practitioners, and local agencies. Helping others explore potential art mediums and their innate, creative power whenever possible is immediately rewarding. Striving to incorporate inclusive and socially-aware approaches in the arts for psycho-social change is a passion. Leaving room for the numinous, reflecting on mysteries, and finding joy along the way sustains it all.
